Our Wilderness Heart

2013, John Muir Wilderness, California

Our Wilderness Heart was an installation built in collaboration with the High Sierra Wilderness Rangers during a residency celebrating 50 years of the Wilderness Act. Working alongside the rangers on two tours into the wilderness, the initial scientific theme gave way to mysticism and romance. Poems written by the rangers were burned into scavenged logs and lumber that surrounded an installation about the breakdown of trees into soil, wildflowers and the Romanticism of the wilderness.
